A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies

Our Mission

Medical profession is considered to be a ‘Noble and Godly’ profession. But the road to becoming a doctor is filled with many great challenges due to packing huge amount of information in a short span of time, recent changes in curriculum, along with frequent internal and external examinations. This is further made tougher by lack of an educational support system. In this post COVID era, we all have realized the importance of e-learning. So, we MEDIGURUKULAM, with a team of motivated medical teachers, joined hands to make this road smoother with an e-reference support system. In this we have included course content videos for reference along with facility for doubt clearance. Over and above, to relieve mental stress faced by students, we are providing an online counselling portal, with a team of counselling psychologists. We have also decided to keep this support system as a very affordable one, accessible to all medical graduates. As our company motto says ‘Giving wings to your medical aspirations’, we are socially committed to lent a helping hand to the medical graduates in our country.

I am a medical teacher since 1974. I always used to compare the course content and duration of a degree course in subjects like Chemistry or Physics to that of the MBBS course. They teach the basics of the science and research methods in three years. But for the MBBS, it is an in-depth learning of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry in just one year. This amounts to nine times the information input as compared to student coming out of a much different and relaxed educational program. And this pattern is to continue during the rest of the course and into Post Graduate studies. No wonder, the Medical course is adjudged as the toughest, by educationalists. One can neither omit a part of any subject, nor there is a choice of questions in the examination. Moreover, these basic subjects form the foundation for further study of Medicine. Hence, they are very important. Government Medical College, Trivandrum, my alma mater, started in 1951 with 50 students. The teacher-student ratio was high at that time. 16 years later when I joined, there were 180 students, and almost the same number of teachers. We too wished to have some sort of educational support, but we had none. With the number of Medical Colleges rising every year, most are able to provide just the stipulated number of teachers only. This, with the high intake of students, further reduces the teacher student ratio. The personal teacher student relationship akin to the Gurukula education system is thus lost. The teacher does not get enough time to interact with all of them and clear all doubts of each one of them. COVID pandemic brought in more difficulties, with classes lost or being converted to online platform. Web based support in studies is already prevalent abroad, but not yet popular here, although, in India, our youngsters are very well-versed with the use of Internet. So, after lot of deliberations, we decided to start a WEB BASED SUPPORT, based on the MBBS curriculum, under the banner MEDIGURUKULAM, which will polish the brilliance of all students, and, will definitely help them to achieve better scores. It is tailored to be very simple and affordable to the students. The course will revise the subjects, provide unlimited opportunity for clearing doubts, conduct periodic tests, oriented to the final examination as well as the competitive examinations in years to come. Wishing you a great future as the best doctors of India and abroad.

Medical education has evolved in India over eons from GURUKULA teaching, through classroom-based teaching to the current Competence based Medical Teaching. This resembles GURUKULA teaching with one to one interaction between teacher and student. At present such support systems are not widely available in Indian Medical Colleges with the poor teacher-student ratio. This was all the more prominent during the COVID pandemic, when online classes came into being to some extent in Medical Education. This led to the creation of this affordable, student friendly platform, with one-to-one interaction and doubt clearance, to help gain thorough theoretical knowledge. The course content is given as explanatory teaching videos, which can be repeatedly viewed to memorise topics. Doubt clearance, questions with explanatory answers as per current guidelines and University question banks will be provided. Exit exam guidance will also be provided. Students go through severe psychological stress during the Medical course. Online counselling, wherever needed, will be made available through a third party. This is a most novel and latest approach in Medical Education. AETCOM digital support for attitude, communication skills will be added to improve competence. Practical session videos are in the pipeline to be added on later. MBBS, being the most popular Medical course, this App content is initially being tailored to that course. Very soon it is planned to expand the contents to suit other Paramedical Courses too.

Psychological counselling is very important in today's world where people go through various life stressors. Be it personal, academic or professional, ‘stress’ takes a toll on any person’s well-being. When a student finishes his/her schooling and enter into the vast academic ocean of medicine, the tides they are going to face may be rough. This may cause much anguish and distress in the ward. With the counselling programme provided at ‘Medigurukulam’, we aim to provide emotional support to students undergoing stress, trying to learn the vast academic discipline of medicine. We understand that result of such enormous stress if left unattended may be anxiety, depression or both. Many students plunge into the dark pit of depression, being unable to bear, on their already overburdened shoulders the unyielding pressure of studies, projects and work. We, as a team, extend our supporting arm to you, in order to help you wade through the rough academic ocean.

As a first year medical student of a new medical college, I struggled in the dark without a senior or a mentor to guide me. I wish such initiatives by medical teachers existed in those days. Better later than never! Hats off to this mega endeavour by those who wish to create change and educate the next generation in the nuances of medicine, with changing landscapes in technology, teaching methods and tests of knowledge and skills. We need to nurture both the clinician and scientist in us, at the same time always being anchored to the noble calling that medicine is.

This program breathes new air into medical education. This would have changed many paths if available about 10-15 years back. I’m happy the future students will be exposed to such good programs. This making them smarter and realise their dreams. I wish and I’m sure this will be loved by all in the medical education field.

Best wishes to Medigurukulam for its innovative strides in medical education. May your efforts to cover the MBBS curriculum in line with the NMC guidelines, along with doubt resolution, detailed question banks, NEXT exam guidance, and psychological assistance, pave the way for exceptional learning experiences.

I am from 2006 batch of MBBS. Those were the days where we did not have a privilege of accessing online platforms to aid in our studies and exam preparations. We had to rely on our seniors to help us navigate through our journey, which they did pretty well. But in the present day scenario, there are ample number of medical colleges with lack of teachers, some colleges, where the batches are new that they don't have seniors to guide through and are struggling to get a proper guidance. And also in times like COVID where students did not get to attend classes properly, communicate with their seniors /teachers properly would all benefit from a platform like MEDIGURUKULAM. I would really like to thank the team of MEDIGURUKULAM who took this immense effort to reach out and bring the faculty together to create this medical teaching platform where many students could benefit from and excel in their studies and gain proper knowledge to practice medicine in an effective manner.

There are many study platforms for other professional courses, except medicine and allied specialties except for entrance exam coaching. So, I believe that this initiative of creating one for medical theory teaching would benefit many budding doctors and would create a very strong foundation for the upcoming medicos. The concept of doubt clearance and providing question banks with detailed answers are all novel ideas. Hence, I would request you all to kindly make use of this platform to gain proper knowledge as you sail through your medical journey.
